Welcome to some bonus content! This post is for the ‘Tomato Pizza Sauce’ we’ll be making on this week’s #LPaGFoodieFriday Cook-a-Long.

Say what?

That’s right, Larder Pantry and Garden are hosting a series of online events, where you can cook along with Chef Kit. Most of these events will be free, so you’ll only need to pay for ingredients.

Each week will be a different recipe/s, and will use basic cooking skills and ingredients. So they’re ideal for anyone to join in and have some fun whilst cooking.

This week, we’re cooking pizzas! From dough through to sauce, we’ll make the lot! We have a two hour maximum duration, but classes may finish sooner if the food’s ready to eat!

If you’re interested in joining this week’s class, you can sign up here: EVENTBRITE, and don’t forget to check out the other scheduled events.

Let’s Cook!

Now, onto the pizza sauce! Like all of Chef Kit’s recipes, this is a straight forward recipe. It’s not overly complicated, tastes great, and is reliable!

You won’t need a lot of equipment, just a chopping board, saucepan, measuring spoons, and sharp knife.

Ingredients are also what most people already have in their pantry; olive oil canned tomatoes, tomato puree, garlic, parsley, basil, oregano, sugar, salt and freshly ground black pepper. A nice customisation is chilli pepper flakes, for those who enjoy a little kick.

So, here’s the recipe, it’s easy to follow, and don’t forget to check out the live-streamed Cook-a-Long events!

Tomato Pizza Sauce

This tomato sauce is a great pizza sauce, or you can also use it to top pasta. Make a double batch, and freeze half, so it makes that next homemade 'ready meal' that much quicker!

Ingredients

  • 400 g Tomatoes canned and chopped
  • 80 g Tomato paste - the thick stuff
  • 2 tbsp Olive oil
  • ½ cup grated onions or finely minced
  • 1 tsp Oregano dried
  • 1 tsp Parsley dried

  • 1 tsp salt
  • ½ tsp black pepper

Instructions

  • In a medium sized pan, sauté the oil, onion, garlic, and pepper flakes.
  • Add the tomato pastes, stir thoroughly, then add the parsley, basil and oregano, cook for 1 minute.
  • Pour in the chopped tomatoes, sugar, salt and pepper. Simmer for 15-20mins, stirring occasionally - check for thickness, and that nothing’s burning!
  • Once cooked, the sauce can be used immediately. Or, you can freeze it for later. Just pour off into a reusable plastic container, let it cool completely, then pop in the freezer. It should keep for up to 6mths in the freezer.
